COMMUNITY SERVICE REPORT FOR NOVEMBER - DECEMBER 2009

NCJW offers a variety of new and on-going Volunteer opportunities. Some require a specific time commitment
and others are one-time projects. Make your New Years resolution early by volunteering to make a difference with your involvement. Contact information is listed below, or call Susan or Joyce for more information on any of these worthwhile and rewarding projects.
The Guatemalan Mayan Program is up and running. Our tutors have started helping the children with their reading. This is a once-a-week commitment at St. Thomas More Church, Military Trail and Woollbright
Rd. Good clothing for men, women and children is also requested.
Royal Palm Beach Headstart Y Program is a new project for us. We will be reading to three and four year olds. They will supply the books and the time commitment will only be for thirty to forty-five minutes because of the age of the children. Anyone wishing to join this program should contact Susan Schwartz at schwartz4021 @bellsouth.net.
A Holiday Project and Party at the Royal Palm Y will be held on Friday, December I I at 9:30 AM. Carpools leave Valencia Shores at 8:45. VS co-chairs are Ellen Rosenberg 967-0770 ellarosebud@gmail.com and Marcia Schectman 964-4060 lakeworthgal@aol.com. Another program is after school in partnership with the
Caridad Center and will be held at the Hagen Road School on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays (your
choice) from 2:30-4:30. This is a homework help program for children in grades K through 5, supervised by

The Literacy Project through Federation is seeking volunteers to assist in the schools once a week during the school days at numerous locations. Volunteers will have two children for 1/2 hour each, grades K-5. Training is required. Contact Joyce Weinstein at joycew3@hotmail.com .
Kolot (Voices) is a new program to assist victims of Jewish domestic abuse. We need volunteers to help with
court appearances, legal and other needs. This program is in its infancy and are working with Jewish Family &
Children's Services to finalize all that is needed. More information will follow.
Roselyn Sisle has assumed the responsibility of Chairwoman of the Living In Freedom Today project.
The LIFT project was formerly the Luggage for Independence project. If you have any items to donate

New or gently used linens, small appliances, kitchen and bathroom items and luggage are always needed. NCJW thanks outgoing Chairwoman Lorraine Quittman for her hard work and dedication to this project.
Fourteen volunteers are needed for the West Palm Beach Headstart Y Holiday Party on Friday, Dee. 18, at
9:45 AM. We will be decorating picture frames as gifts that the kids can give to family members, and serving cake and punch. Carpools will be formed. Call Joyce Kantrowitz 965-2803 or Susan Schwartz 966-2436.
Chanukah Celebration at the Morse Geriatric Center will be held on Tuesday, December 15. Volunteers are
needed to serve lunch or greet elderly guests who usually receive Meals on Wheels. Contact Beverly

Book Reviews for the Visually Impaired are held at the Boynton Beach JCC. Volunteer to lead a group of seniors who use books on tape. Contact Sandy Hendrick, Sandyhfl@hotmail.com to arrange to observe a session.
CONGRATULATIONS SOUTH POINT DIVISION
South Point's Bloomingdales Project was a huge success! In addition to the $300 raised by the members, the contribution from Bloomies was $3,328. Thanks to all to participated in this project, and to the Division for all the organization, dedication and hard work
